Chapter 4 : Series Circuit

Circuit configuration

Components in circuits can be connected in three ways

1. Series

2. Parallel

3. Series Parallel Combination

In this lecture we are interested in series circuits

Series Circuit

Although series circuit can be understood in many definition , but as far as my experience is concerned following definition remained best

Two components are said to be in series if they share one single terminal .

Figure 4 Series Circuits

Figure 5 Circuit not series

Here is one more example of series circuit . Here in picture , you can see that all components are in series

Find the total resistance of the given below circuit

RAB= R1+R2+R3

=451 Ω

For the following Circuit find the Total current

Rt=R1+R2+R3

Rt= 2K+1K+3K=6000Ω

It= 4 mA

For the Above Circuit , find the voltage disappeared by each resistor

As the circuit is in series so the same current will pass through each element

V1= 4mA*2K=8V

V2= 4mA*1K=4V

V3= 4mA*3K=12V
